1602, King James VI quarter thistle merk, piece issued during the eigth silver coinage of 1601 - 1604, and dated 1602. Clear date. Obverse legend reads - James VI by the grace of God King of Scots. Reverse reads - Jehovah protects the King 1602. CC Ref # SCO-10, bold F

1625-1634 Thirty Shillings. This issue depicts the king on horseback and is very similar to the English halfcrown of King James I. Mintmark is the thistle, never seen on English pieces. The shield on the reverse is much plainer than that seen on the English issue. The harp on this shield is also quite different with the end - turned in. This coin is the rarer type displaying English arms in the first and fourth quarters, just like the English halfcrown. The more common type displays Scottish arms in the first and fourth quarters. 1637 to 1642, King Charles I half merk silver piece, Briot’s machine made issue. Crowned bust of king facing left and letter B below, the value VI8 behind the king’s head, the legend starts at the bottom of the coin and reads – CAR DG SCOT ANG FR ET HIB R. Crown over royal shield dividing CR with a letter B at the end of the legend which reads – CHRISTO AUSPICE REGNO. CC Ref # SCO-22, aVF
